Mod 8 Video Discussion

I really appreciated the video that discussed various strategies for Scaffolding Literacy for ELL’s. Although the video does not directly relate to my content area or grade level the strategies the teacher implemented are beneficial for all students. She discussed several strategies that I utilize frequently in my classroom. 

• Standards are framed as learning targets in student- friendly language.

• Reviewing Anchor Charts - I heavily utilize anchor charts in my classroom,not only are they important visual aides but are readily accessible references that students help create, promoting ownership and a positive learning environment. 

• Oral Rehearsal of ideas develops language and critical thinking skills- repetition of skip counting improves number fluency.

• Interpreting the “gist” of text sections-  Can be used when interpreting word problems; ultimately what is this problem asking us to do?

• The importance of pacing and pause times.
