I think pre-teaching new/ unfamiliar words is extremely important. This is something that has to be done efficiently, though, because in my experience, students sometimes get carried away with these assignments/discussions, cutting into curriculum time. Something I read about that I would like to incorporate into my tiering and scaffolding is more paraphrasing and graphic organizers. I think a fun way to alter this a little for ELL students would be a combination of the two. Maybe a fill-in-the-blank paraphrased text with pictures to help them along.
