Module 5 Discussion: Language Acquisition in Content Areas

Here are two activities I’ve use in the classroom to boost morphological awareness and language skills:

Word Breakdown: I have students pick apart complex words by finding their roots, prefixes, and suffixes.

Vocabulary Journals: I ask students to keep journals where they jot down new words, their meanings, and some example sentences from what we're studying.

These two activities have been the most useful with my ELLs and lower level readers.
