Mod 16 Discussion: Modifications for the Second Language Learner

The book  Selecting and Modifying Materials to Differentiate, mentions many modifications for second language learners such as, during independent reading time the teacher can read aloud to a group or the students can utilize technology.  During writing activities, graphic organizers can be modified to include pictures or step-by-step directions.

Another modification would be to allow students to access materials in their native language.  Providing ELL students with an English to 1st Language dictionary would also be a helpful modification.
