In helping my struggling learners and ELL learners when introducing a new text lesson I start with vocabulary. The vocabulary that will be introduced in the text, is given to them with definition so that they can relay back to when stuck in the reading. I also have the students read the title and make a prediction of what the story is going to be about. This help me as a teacher to prepare open ended questions with them based on what they have mentioned. When I prepare for text reading I place my struggling readers and ELL learners with students that are higher learners in a group.

Scaffolding is very important in the process of building my lesson plan and creating Q&A critical thinking questions from the text. Using visual aid for all students to answer and also discussion questions for them to talk to each other about the text and write out. This helps the students struggling and ELL learners to build knowledge and insight on the text and build on communication skills in the classroom.
