Mod 8 Discussion: Tiering and Scaffolding in My Classroom

A scaffolding approach would be to make more use of a venn diagram on comparing and contrasting two different texts. Before reading, I define what the words compare and contrast mean and I give a real life example of comparing and contrasting using a graphic organizer (apples versus apple pie). 

During the lesson, I show them how to use this chart and work together on adding one or two reasons why one text is different than the other. During this process, I am thinking out loud and showing students how to use evidence from the text to support my answers. 

After the lesson, I can have them do a reason on their own on the graphic organizer and the next lesson, they will be able to compare and contrast two texts using a venn diagram.
