Scenario Response 1
As a high school journalism teacher with a diverse group of international students, I've noticed this happen before, especially at the start of a new school year. For this scinerio's student, Krashen's Input Hypothesis AKA Brain-Based Theory is most applicable. Krashen suggests that language acquisition happens when learners are exposed to language that's a bit above their current level but still understandable. Therefore, I'd focus on creating a supportive environment where she hears clear, simple language, backed up by visuals and context clues, like printed lables and images. I'd encourage her to practice using the language in interactive activities and provide gentle feedback as well as provide peer help in the classroom. I'd also make sure to include elements from her own culture to keep her engaged.
