According to the article, I would say that the Acquisition vs. Learning Hypothesis applies to this student. She is in the silent stage, listens more than produce, & her language is developing slowly. Teachers have to be patient with this student. I would do read-alouds with this student. This way, she is able to hear me, look at me, and see my expressions as I read. I would speak slowly so that she understands. I would also point to the text when I read something or when pictures are present so that she sees what I am saying. Additionally, I would pair this student with an English speaking student to re-read the text. I would pre-teach vocabulary words & allow student to use graphic organizer an an additional visual.
