The most important guidelines on adopting and adapting curriculum are to embrace flexibility, prioritize alignment, and consider learner diversity. Flexibility is important because as teachers we need to be able to respond to changing educational trends as well as being able to mee the diverse needs of our students. By prioritizing alignment teachers can ensure that the curriculum aligns with state standards and learning objectives. Learner diversity should be considered to account for the varied learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds of students when implementing selected materials and texts.
My syllabus would look like an outline with each step described in a succinct and informative blurb. For the training, I would send the syllabus and any other materials out in advanced with the instruction to come prepared to discuss the information provided and to submit any questions ahead of time. I would have a brief introduction to the topic, followed by a discussion of submitted questions with limited follow up questions allowed. Teachers would then break out into department groups to discuss content area concerns and requirements. They would then write down the relevant information from their discussion and submit it to a parking lot via sticky notes. Other departments would be invited to review the sticky notes for anything that may be relevant to their content area that they did not think of, and add it to their notes.
