My hypothesis from this event is the student's visual fluency is behind their auditory. Jin Wu's focus during instructions (assuming verbal) and progression in content and language skills demonstrate auditory fluency. Jin Wu "reading" for 30 minutes while peers write then asking a low fluency level question about the prompt's very beginning are my clues. I think the student was staring at the prompt with little to no comprehension. In the future, I would assign work similar to test formats to allow remediation before major implications. Additionally, I would read aloud prompt questions. Lastly, I would include more graphic organizers, writing and reading tasks into assignments.
