I would give students books that match their reading level but are still interesting to them. I would use partner reading, repeated reading, and small groups to help build fluency. Before reading, I would introduce important vocabulary and use a KWL chart to build background knowledge. For my newer ELL students, I would use visuals and simple directions. My goal would be to help all students become more confident readers while improving their fluency and comprehension.
