Based on what was just referenced from the Brain-Based Theory some learners have a “silent stage” where they listen more than produce. We as teachers should show patience because for some silence may mean they are "taking in" what is being said and how it's being used as real language develops slowly, beginning with speaking. It is not "drill and drill some more".
