The integration of media literacy and critical thinking as a content area approach to teaching can facilitate any subject area.

I have taught media literacy and critical thinking skills to secondary students and I would be comfortable teaching it to teachers.

It might strike you as a very one-strike topic - media literacy, or understanding and questioning media. I believe this would be a way of bringing realia into each subject area. Media is everywhere, media releases, commercials, advertisements - and all these public requests for your attention require a decent amount of critical thinking to decipher. Science, Social Science, Mathematics, and especially English, all these core subject areas can incorporate examples of media that pertain to their subject. Using thorough questioning and decoding of media bring about a process of logically deciphering a subject.

I enjoyed reading your perspective on media literacy and critical thinking. You make a strong point that these skills are valuable across all content areas, not just English. I especially like your emphasis on using real-world media to help students make meaningful connections while practicing critical thinking. Encouraging students to question and analyze the information they encounter every day is an important skill that will benefit them both inside and outside the classroom. Your experience teaching these skills would certainly be a valuable resource for both students and fellow educators.
