Scenario Response 6
”Social context of language consists of the setting, the speakers, and the social and power relationships among them.”
This is the first line of our reading section and to me it says that the social implications of language - and subsequently language learning - is in that socialization impacts the ELL student. If intensive vocabulary time is taken for the student, you further remove them from the whole purpose of language and communication. That being how language brings you into and allows you to socialize.
I would focus on increased socialization of the ELL student and would expect vocabulary to increase as a by product.
You make a great point that language is meant for communication, and providing English learners with meaningful opportunities to interact with peers can naturally strengthen both their confidence and vocabulary. I also like your idea of balancing language development with authentic social experiences, as these interactions help students practice language in real-world contexts while building a sense of belonging in the classroom.
