Learning logs
This tool could successfully help the students in a reading club. In a middle school group of students all reading the same book but perhaps not all reading at the same level, having students keep a learning log while enjoying the book - and then both sharing from those pods during a reading club meeting & having one on one sessions with me to discuss comprehension. I would ask that the logs not only discuss questions and thoughts that the storyline inspires but also how the storyline reflects on their own life, at present or in their past.
This will be a wonderful way for students to better understand how to relate stories to their own lives and experiences.
The use of the learning logs is very important. Having them to reflect on their own life through the storyline is a great way to build a connection and activate their prior knowledge and build on it.
