The brain-based theory is the one that applies most to this student. One of the hypotheses of this theory is the acquisition versus learning, which states that second language learners undergo “silent stage” where they listen more to assimilate for language acquisition. As teachers, we should be patient to the student because they learn slowly and may take several weeks to develop the language. And since they listen more, reinforcing listening comprehension skills through reading aloud or use of songs/music will be helpful. It is also important to speak slowly and use shorter words when speaking to the student.
