These strategies include differentiated instruction, repeated reading, vocabulary building, and high-interest materials. Students are known to be inspired by interesting literature; therefore, the use of the leveled library will prove useful in facilitating independent reading, paired reading, and small group instruction.
When dealing with beginning English Language Learners (ELLs), I would employ pictures, vocabulary pre-teaching, and grouping them with more competent students. When dealing with poor readers, I would employ guided reading, fluency models, and oral repeated reading.
Background information should be established before reading.
