In my class, a lot of our criterion-based assessments are connected to students’ IEP goals because we’re collecting very specific data tied to a skill or benchmark. Since the goal is clearly defined (for example, accuracy, independence, or number of opportunities), the student is being measured against a set criterion—not compared to other students.
An interim assessment in Florida is usually the state testing given three times a year to check progress over time. Students are assessed at the beginning of the year to see where they are starting, again in the middle of the year to monitor progress, and at the end of the year to measure growth. These assessments help show overall student progress and guide instruction based on areas of need.
