At this point in the year, I would use flexible grouping to mix students strategically based on strengths, needs, and learning styles. This approach allows students to interact with new peers, share different perspectives, and take on new roles within the group. It also provides opportunities for peer mentoring, collaborative problem solving, and academic challenge.

I would embrace Vygotszkys social construct theory which emphasizes the role of social interaction in learning. According to this theory, students learn best when they engage with others slightly beyond their current level of understanding, within their zone of proximal development. By rearranging groups, students can be scaffolded by peers who have stronger skills while also contributing their own strengths, encouraging both social growth and academic development.

This combination of flexible grouping and social constructivist principles helps prevent stagnation, motivates students to engage with new ideas, and fosters deeper understanding through collaborative learning.
