Scenario Response 2
scenario 2
This scenario I feel can relate to a lot of students and not just ESOL students. I have encountered students like this in my own teaching career who can read and decode at grade level but seem distant and removed when reading out loud. I think one of the ways to help this student for this scenario, would be through humor and emotion. By relating and making it fun and engaging, they may not struggle as much or they might feel more comfortable making a mistake knowing it is ok and that everyone makes mistakes at times. I always try to incorporate a little bit of humor in all of my lessons to ease the students and let them know its ok to have fun while learning. I think another intervention approach would be recognizing achievement. Most times we tend to highlight or focus on the ones that are not doing what they're supposed to be, or that distract the class, or we congratulate those that struggle when they over come an obstacle, that sometimes we do not highlight the successes of those that are doing a great job and what they are supposed to be doing. I believe a lot of students just want to know they're on the right track and a little recognition would help them be more confident. I try to do this every day in my class when I had back assignments by recognizing them for getting a good grade on something.
