Mod 2 Discussion: What the Research Means to Me
Mod 2 Discussion
I appreciated learning about the history of the evolution of the ESOL program. Like many things it took time and was all a needed offshoot from the Civil Rights Act. When this is taught, the education factor is often forgotten, so hearing home it was affected and what it meant to people was really interesting. It has always surprised me how some of these kids are just thrown into the system and are expected to learn the English language immediately. It made me think, if the role was reversed, what would my education look like to be thrown into another countries education system with little to no knowledge of the language. These students need and deserve the same attention we give all other students, we give so much to students with IEP's and 504's that sometimes it feels like the ESOL students are an afterthought.
