We will be reading Esperanza Rising soon as a class and I want to use Critical Thinking: Synthesize as a strategy to deepen students understanding and comprehension of the text.  I think prompting students to think and respond to questions/prompts such as the ones below will help them think about the text in a more meaningful way.  

  1. Can you think of another ending?
  2. What if that were you?
  3. What if that were your cousin?
  4. What might happen if…

I also would like to try some of the switching ideas.  Thinking about the text I would definitely do a setting switch and emotion switch to engage students in a discussion about what that would mean for the plot and text.
