The student appears to best fit the description of being in Pre Production. Some strageties I would use would be to speak slowly to the student and not use overy complicated words or phrases. This will give the student time to process the communication.

Additionaly, using gestures to reinforce what is being said will help the student at this stage. To continue to reinforce this with the learning unit, I would make sure to have as many visual representations of concepts, vocabulary, and new objects. This will not only help the ELL student, but also helps all other students, since some of the new content is something none of the students have experienced or lerned about yet.
