I would feel comfortable advocating for project-based learning because it is a pragmatic approach that promotes real engagement, group collaboration and the development of essential skills in a context that allows students to see real world applications. The focus on projects with real-world connections helps engage students. As such, the students would more readily seek to participate, ask questions and research information, all of which leads to increased motivation and practice in language. The projects would provide the students with opportunities to use their developing language in real contexts as they communicate and learn from each other. Scaffolding and modeling by the teacher would work to further support these skills. Project-based learning also has the advantage of being adaptable to the varying needs of students so that they can have equitable access to any challenging instruction through scaffolding and differentiated instruction.
