Although it may be difficult as professionals to refrain from correcting students, it is important to focus on the positive aspects of the students' response instead of focusing on what they got wrong. When we only provide corrections we are pointing out the students flaws and that does not help with student confidence, and may hinder any additional response attempts in the future. As stated in the module in early stages grammatical issues will sort themselves out later and it is important to focus on what affects student comprehension. Some alternatives for awareness for self correction include working with a partner or in a small group, where the ELL student can be in a smaller setting and interact/ observe in a smaller setting.
