Mod 5 Discussion: Formal and Informal Assessments
My prior experience shows that interest inventories function very effectively. Learning student preferences at year start enables me to select books and topics that capture their genuine interest. The change produced significant results because it increased student motivation to engage with reading while helping me understand their individual success needs. Connecting students' interests to reading activities resulted in rewarding observations of their growing enthusiasm.
I plan to explore the use of analytical rubrics in future teaching practices. Analytical rubrics help students work on specific areas by clearly outlining sections such as organization, content, and mechanics. Analytical rubrics enable students to identify their strengths and pinpoint areas for improvement while minimizing feelings of being overwhelmed. The approach enables me to deliver detailed instructional feedback which helps students move forward. The assessment process becomes both clearer and more supportive for students when analytical rubrics are implemented.
