For the whole class, work on a whole group discussion with guided questions to build listening and speaking skills. For students who buddy up, use mixed ability pairing, switch roles, one person ask the question, and one explain, then swap allowing each learning to think critically. In small group instruction, use problem solving and encourage participation and talking out of ideas. With individual/one-on-one, we can use some socratic questioning to work them through the critical thinking elements.
