These students will likely have major differences in their foundational skills. The student who had an opportunity to study will likely be able to read and write in their native language, while the other may have major learning gaps. I would first want to do some informal assessments to determine where they are in their native language. 

In order to prepare them for these linguistic challenges, I will make sure I have addressed the background knowledge with the use of images and visual aids before diving into new material.
