This students seems to be field-dependent. The characteristics of working well with others or in groups as well as being engaged with the teacher in learning lessons are within that spectrum. Often times the behavior of this student coincides with the teachers interaction and environment of the class. 

To help this student you can use small group assignments as well as class discussions to engage this student in their learning.
