There are many intervention methods used for students based off of teaching style. However in this case with a student who reads almost on grade level but struggles with execution of solving ideas I’d lean towards constant clarification and provided resources mixed with visual representation. These methods build confidence by showing the student what to do as well as making sure the student is clear on the goal while providing resources that help the student. It is also a bonus that the student is becoming fluent showing that the student just needs a small push to boost their morale.
