Scenario Response 2
Scenario 2 Discussion- C. Bailey
Based on the information in the scenario I would believe that the student is not fully confident in their reading skills. The student may still have some reservations about their reading due to their accent or because they are just not comfortable reading out loud because they are not confident enough in their reading skills even if they are performing at almost grade level proficiency. Some ELL’s might not have a firm foundation on which they feel that they can confidently stand on and so they prefer to not read out loud or engage during class lessons or read-aloud. When scholars have a firm foundation and can find the joy in reading so that they can learn the love of reading and how reading can sometimes take you to places that you may not actually get to see in real life. I would encourage the young reader to stretch their imagination in order to build their confidence. I would encourage conversations about what they’re reading and show in interest in being able to talk with them about their “book-ventures”I would encourage the to read daily. I would reach the student through the different teaching modalities in order to ensure understanding of what they are reading and learning.
