Mod 6 Discussion: Language Acquisition in a Cultural Context

Reinforcing morphological awareness in the classroom builds background knowledge as the students moves on to more complex text. As an English teacher I use activities that encourages the student to compare and contrast meaning of words in text. I work with prefixes, suffixes and root words. Another activity is learning to word part especially for my ELL learners. Through the lesson I use vocabulary words and I have students use them in a sentence, define if the word is a noun, pronoun, or verb. I also encourage them to use their vocabulary during the week with friends.
