Morphological awareness and other linguistic skills should be taught throughout the day across all curriculum.  I address these issues within each subject as vocabulary and phonological  sections are presented with each lesson.  I try to deepen the student's understanding of culture while addressing different vocabulary, i.e., a Spanish-American student might have a different meaning or pronunciation of the word "work".

I also like to address the root word meanings as they are derived from Greek or Latin terminology and how those words are changed with the adding of prefixes and suffixes.

Many students find it easiest to understand the meaning of words when we decompose them and explain the roots and their origins. Lot of vocabulary derived from Greek and Latin is similar to Spanish words.
