The goal would be to build and focus on fluency for this diverse group of students in a mainstream classroom, I would implement a multimodal, differentiated approachthat leverages the strengths and interests of each student while addressing their specific needs. Here’s how I would do it:

Strategies for Building Fluency:

1.Leveled Reading Groups

   - Small Group Instruction: Organize students into small, leveled reading groups based on their reading abilities. This allows for targeted instruction where I can provide more intensive support to students reading below grade level, including the bilingual and special education students.

   - Peer Buddy Reading Pair stronger readers with those who are struggling. This can build confidence and provide modeling of fluent reading.

2. High-Interest, Accessible Texts:

   - Leveled Library Utilization Make effective use of the leveled library to ensure all students have access to high-interest texts at their reading level. Allow students to choose books that excite them to foster engagement.

   - Choice Boards Create choice boards that allow students to select from various activities related to their reading (e.g., summarizing, creating a visual representation, or performing a reader’s theat

3. Fluency Practice

-*Choral Reading: Use choral reading where the whole class reads together, modeling fluent reading. This is particularly beneficial for bilingual students, as it helps them practice pronunciation and rhythm in a supportive environment. This strategy with ELL scholars allows for the students  to practive without feelin like they are being singled out and expected to read everything with perfection. This allows them to become more confident in their reading and pronunciation of English words.

4. Daily Reading Time:

Sustained Silent Reading (SSR)- Establish a daily time for SSR where students can read independently. This builds stamina and a love for reading. Encourage them to keep a reading log to reflect on their reading journey.  This concept akes me miss when we used to have D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) time that we would have in school. This applied to everyone to include the teachers. No matter what we were doing at the appointed time every teacher and student in every classroom would stop whatever they were doing and read a book of their choice for 20 minutes, When this was implemented and monitored properly reading data was much higher than what we are currently seeing as it built a desire for eading and comprehension for  the scholars.

5.Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

   - Regular Fluency Assessments: Conduct regular fluency assessments to track progress and adjust groupings or interventions as needed. Use tools like running records to identify specific areas of need.

-Goal Setting Help students set personal fluency goals and celebrate their progress, reinforcing a growth mindset

This sets the scholars up for success and allows them to determine what was attainable for them. When we had the million wod challenge tis pushed the scholars to read more as they enjoyed the recognition they received especially if they surpassed their reading goals.

By implementing these strategies, I would create a supportive environment that encourages fluency development for all students. The combination of high-interest texts, collaborative practices, and consistent feedback can significantly improve reading fluency across the diverse needs of the classroom.
