Student grouping will change throughout the year as the students strengthen their language development and are able to become leaders.  Grouping will also change throughout the week or quarter either grouped with varying languge development or similar languge development.

Starting off, groups will be heterogeneous based on ability.  If possible, students who speak the same language may be in the same group to help facilitate a better understanding by translating if able.  The stronger students can scaffold those who need more assistance.  Students will change groups throughout the year so they can work with every peer.

The groups will change to homogeneous based on language development either a different day during the week or the following week.  This will allow those who need more intervention and scaffolding to work with the teacher on thier specific needs.  Those who are on level can practice and review the current skill.  The students who need more of a challenge can work on more advanced work or a research project.

Utilizing this alternate grouping will allow for every student to progress from the level they are at while working with the teacher.  This will help students to become more confident in their abilities and be more comfortable in a leader role.  Working with different peers will help students get to know each other and how to work with differing personalities and abilities.
