Classroom environment: How is the layout? Are there helpful posters? What is the overall atmosphere?

Student Engagement: Are students participating?

What is the instructional strategy being used? Do ELLs respond well to this strategy? Does the teacher provide feedback and how is it provided?

Is the teacher providing opportunities for language acquisition? Is the teacher scaffolding these opportunities to help the ELL? Does the teacher provide background information or use what they know the student already has as background information?
