In order to better understand the student it is important to learn more on their cultural background. I would start with minor research on the culture and even ask some peers or friends that may be from that same culture. This will create a better understanding of customs, values, communication styles, and any potential stressors they may be facing from culture shock. It is also important to identify cultural norms, where as, eye contact is important in our culture; other cultures it could be seen as rude. Once getting a fuller understanding of the learners culture and accustoms it is important to use culturally relevant interventions. For instance, if the student's culture places a high value on community and family, involving those members in decisions based around schooling should be upmost importance. Once the creation of the FBA plan is agreed upon and satisfactory a steady, healthy, relationship between the learner must be continuous. Building that trust and relationship will only continue to bolster the learners abilities and confidence in learning.
