Module 8 Video Response
Video Response_Austin's Butterfly
Austin’s Butterfly story demonstrates the effectiveness of models, critique, and specific feedback to improve student work. This applies to my own work with students in the classroom, especially in writing. Model exemplars are presented to show students what is expected of them. Students start writing essays independently, and their progress becomes the new examples. I conduct this whole group and in partner peer reviews. We focus on one area at a time (i.e. paragraph, sentence structure, spelling/grammar, etc.) and provide specific feedback. Students then get a chance to revise and further develop their essay. Ultimately, the final product is high-quality work that students achieve through a process of critique and revisions. Moving forward, I would love to incorporate this concept/process with numbers and problem solving, as I’ll be teaching math next year.
