Module 3

I think the only time I have experienced what would be close to a culture shock was moving from my small city in Florida to live and work in NYC for a summer. The fast-paced ness of everything and everyone, even as simple as not waiting for a walk signal to cross a road was so new to me. Not counting the many different ethnicities, religions, and overall cultures that were so different than what I was used to back home. Eventually, I got used to moving almost as quickly as everyone else, using the subway systems, and knowing when to go to a certain area in the city for something exciting caught up to me. Comparing how I felt moving to New York to an ELL student coming into my classroom could help me implement how they may feel could come to a great advantage as their teacher. It is still not as challenging, I understand, but it could put a little perspective on how to navigate their feelings towards something new they are going through.

That definitely is a culture shock. Small town to big city....slow paced and calm to fast paced and hectic.
