Mod 5 Discussion: Formal and Informal Assessments
Mod 5 discussion
A formative assessment I use almost every reading lesson I teach are exit tickets. After I teach a lesson, the students have to answer one question or respond to a quick writing prompt. After the students answer them, I grade them and go over the question with the students. Some students come to the board and explain why they did not choose a specific answer and other students explain why they chose the correct answer. The students enjoy reviewing the exit ticket and helping their peers if one got the wrong answer. Exit tickets also help me decide who to work with during small groups when teaching that specific standard.
One assessment I want to incorporate is using word lists. Word lists allow me to listen to how the student pronounces the word and their process in decoding words. Then after a few weeks, I can present that same list of words to the student and see how much they have improved on reading those words.
