Module 3 Discussion
The theory that best applies to this student would be "Brain-Based Theory", and this would be Stage 1; where the student is in their "silent" stage where they are taking in the environment around them. This period is known to last for several weeks, so certain instruction techniques are helpful to this student. For example, story read-aloud and singing of songs/music that have easy to understand and somewhat repetitive lines. Also, speaking slowly and clearly, using shortened words and demonstrating new words and showing ways to help remember them for future content (like a journal). It is not mentioned in the lesson but avoid using any figurative language at this point unless it is needed specifically for a lesson, to prevent confusion on word meanings.
