When teaching a student who is learning a second language, you should not correct them if they can be comprehended and understood. This helps the student feel more confident in their abilities and keeps them from becoming discouraged.
Some alternative ways to bring about student awareness for self-correction is modeling the correct use of the word yourself. For example, if the student pronounced a word wrong in a conversation with you, you could later use it in your lesson with the correct pronunciation.
