Mod 1 Discussion: Classroom Implications of Linguistic Theory
Mod 1 Discussion
Students who are learning a second language should be encouraged to communicate and comprehension should be the focus. Grammar is not the focus of a student learning another language and the emphasis should be on how that student responds to what is being asked. Students are learning a new language and if a student is grammatically incorrect, it should be done gently. For example, if a student says "I bathroom", one can understand that the student would like to use the bathroom. A gentle way to reiterate what the student said is by responding with "You may go use the bathroom."
