It is important to refrain from correcting these students as it can lower their self confidence and it is not always necessary in a situation. If there is a misunderstanding then there may be a need for corrections or clarifications, but for smaller mistakes they should be left to try their best. This will allow them to feel that they can try to learn. Some ways to bring student awareness is checklists, visual aids (anchor charts, etc.), repetition of instructions, and group work with other English proficient students.
