I would develop an action plan. I have students who aren't grasping supporting details. I assigned a lesson asking them to select 4 or 5 supporting details from a passage we read. They were all over the place with their selections. I then went over the supporting details with them, picking them out one by one. I asked them "why" those supporting details were supporting details? I broke the passage down into 4 sections & slightly changed the directions (differentiation). I gave students immediate feedback so that they knew what they were getting right or wrong.
Non-Observable Artifacts: posted routines, peer assistance, & student work samples.
End of week: I gave students a different passage with a few more supporting details:
I reviewed the main idea with them. I told them to look back at the main idea and to pick supporting details that would allow them to make stories since that is what the main idea stated. They focused on supporting details that would make up possible stories and selected those.
On-going assessments will be done on a weekly basis with a midweek review.
Progress monitoring will be done throughout the week.
