Scenario Response 2
Scenario 2 / Module 4
Modeling/Exposure:
Modeling shows students the correct way something should be done. I show students how to read a passage by pausing, being expressive, and using highs & lows in my voice. I call upon students to read this way so that they can see the difference in this style of reading vs. monotone reading. They laugh at this method but in time, the reading becomes more exciting and gets the students more involved.
Exposing students to multiple vocabulary words ensures that the words are seen more than once and will be learned well. According to the article, it takes more than 20 times for a word to be seen for it to be mastered. I have students define vocabulary words at the beginning of the passage, say the words when they read the passage, and tell again what the definition is as we read. I also write the vocabulary words on an index cards and post on an interactive word wall. Additionally, vocabulary words are written on the white board and remain there the entire time we are reading & working on that particular unit.
