Module 1 Goals
My goals in this course are to
1) Understand how linguistics affects students on an academic basis.

2) Understand how to utilize these resources to help my ELLs and struggling learners.
In my experience, both white and black teachers are guilty of using coded
language terms such as 'ghetto' and/or treating students from inner city struggles
with "kid gloves" because we believe in their potential.
I don't think it costs white teachers a chance to HUMANIZE their kids. If anything,
that empathy is, when genuine, what pulls students in to buy in on their own education.
As far as point 10 is concerned, it's not the responsibility of white
teachers to recruit more teachers of color into the school system.
It is the responsibility of the school districts and their boards of
education. Unfortunately, they are not giving incentive to graduates
of any background to become teachers.
