Through the butterfly metaphor, the teacher showed how a really challenging, complex task can be broken down into chunks (scaffolding) and through time, a student can make a lot of progress and become very successful. I would apply this teacher’s approach toward asking students to give specific feedback in multiple stages, because it would be hard to give feedback on the first draft as specific as you would on the fourth. It is important to break down feedback, as opposed to giving sweeping recommendations, and I think it was interesting how the students gave more and more precise critiques down the line.
