  1. StudySync Textbook both Online and Physical

  2. StudySync has the capability to adjust the reading level of a text based on the student's language level in it's web version. It also provides a visual glossary, discussion sentence starters, and graphic organizers specifically for ELL students.

  3. Name of Text: StudySync

    Publisher: McGraw Hill

    Publication Date: 2020

    Grade level: 10

    Criteria

    Comments

    Rating in favor of adoption

    1 (low) 5 (high)

    1. Support for standards

This textbook has the standards for each text and skill embedded in the lesson. It even provides lesson plan outlines with the objectives clearly stated at the beginning.

    5

    2. Cultural relevance: assumptions, perceptions, cultural friendliness, multi-cultural

Has many culturally relevant texts for a diverse classroom. Some selections may not be entirely relevant for everyone in the classroom all the time.

    4

    3. Content support

The text’s skill lessons are decent enough, though the practice questions sometimes leave a lot to be desired.

    3

    4. Readability and grade level applicability

The text can be set to automatically adjust the reading level based on the student’s tested language proficiency.

    5

    5. Content Objectives

Appear to align with the state objectives.

    4

    6. Graphic support: graphs, charts, other learning aids

The textbook provides charts/graphs where relevant.

    4

    7. Visual Support: pictures, graphics, other visual support

    The textbook provides pictures/graphics.

    4

    8. Vocabulary:

    • Tier 1, 2, and 3 vocabulary

    • How much adjustment/modification will be needed?

Vocabulary relies very heavily on context clues for students to comprehend the text. This may be ok for non-ELL or non-struggling readers, but for those who have difficulty reading they may find that they are spending a lot of time looking up the context words in order to understand the selected vocabulary words.

    9. Bias

The over all content bias is minimal, there are a few instances where the curriculum selected texts show bias but that can be planned around.

    3

    10. Differentiation and scaffolding support for cultural relevance.

Scaffolding for cultural relevance is fairly apparent.

  4. In my opinion the book is appropriate as a textbook for 10th grade students.

  5. Supplements to the text would include Achieve 3000 for informational articles that match the topic of the literature being studied, Quill.org for grammar and writing practice, Quizlet.com for vocabulary acquisition, and Kahoot for reading comprehension quiz differentiation.
