These students are both ELLs, but come from polar opposite backgrounds. The student who studied extensively likely has the schema to be able to mentally organize and store a new language. However, the student who fled war likely has problems far outside of the scope of just learning a new language. They are likely dealing with a lot of trauma, so it would be important to inform guidance and admin, so they entire team can work for the benefit of this child. Likewise, it is important that this child has a calm and stable environment, because if they cannot relax they cannot learn.
